"I love the desert and its incomparable sense of space."
-Robyn Davidson, author of "Tracks"
Extended treks allow time for a new rhythm to develop, one that allows for relaxation from life's stresses and a deeper connection with outdoor living. We welcome guests to become 'hands-on' with the camels and involved with the cameleers in grooming, saddling, leading, hobbling, and shepherding. The Flinders Range's valleys and granite peaks provide excellent opportunities for photography and studying the geology of the area, flora, and fauna.
You'll develop a relationship with the camels, camp under thousands of stars and dine on meals prepared over the camp fire flames. These trips allow for a new rhythm to develop, one that will connect you to yourself and nature.
Off the Famous Birdsville Track
The Birdsville Track began during the 1880’s as the main stock route from Birdsville to Marree. The diversity of country between the four deserts, Tirari, Strzelecki, Sturt Stony, and Simpson Desert is contrasted by the remarkable wetlands of the Clayton River.
Lake Torrens and Surrounds
The rugged, weathered peaks and rocky gorges of the Flinders Ranges in Outback South Australia form some of the most dramatic and ancient landscapes in the country. We trek to Lake Torrens, skirted by rolling sand dunes...this salt bush country offers a stark contrasts with the distant ridges of the Flinders Ranges.
Ultimate Camel Journey
Our longest camel trekking journey is perfect for adventurers looking to nourish their soul and bodies with an outback experience steeped in cameleer history. Spanning a sweeping range of the Flinders, guests will see more, do more, and connect more with our camels. This experience is only offered once a year.
"A once-in-a-lifetime experience to have a soak in the desert in the company of camels with a cheerful, helpful and very careful team to facilitate it. An amazing amount of work was done to transport and feed our small group. I was so glad it was not shorter than the 9 days!" - Barbara, 2017
"The 9 day trek with camels off the Birdsville Track on Clayton Station was truly memorable. In every respect the organisation was exemplary; food provided was plentiful, remarkably fresh and tasty; the crew were without exception cheerful, friendly and so accommodating; the landscape utterly captivating and surprisingly varied and almost lush (given the desert location); and the stars of the show, our 8 camels, totally endearing."
