Welcome to Nomadic Spirit Journeys & Camel Treks Australia.

Where Adventure Meets Professionalism.

Booking Conditions & Expectations
To operate responsibly within the tourism industry, we have clearly outlined our booking conditions. As passionate explorers of the Outback and remote regions, we often disconnect from the grid to fully immerse ourselves in nature and the environments in which we operate.

While the following terms may appear formal, they do not reflect the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere you will experience with Nomadic Spirit Journeys or Camel Treks Australia. We very much look forward to hosting you and are committed to delivering a professional, warm, and truly unforgettable adventure.

Before we begin, we have outlined a few key expectations in the terms and conditions below. In return, we offer our full dedication to making your experience both meaningful and exceptional.

We look forward to sharing remarkable journeys with you—whether it is a 5, 7, or 9-day camel-supported bushwalk in the Far North Flinders Ranges with Camel Treks Australia, or an international journey with Nomadic Spirit Journeys in Mongolia, India, Morocco, or beyond.

1. Introduction

Travel & Ancillary Services
-
Camel Treks Australia (CTA) is not a travel agent. Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ) organises all-inclusive international journeys, assisted by third-party providers, to destinations such as Mongolia, India, and Morocco. Full details of what is included in these journeys are clearly outlined on the website.
-
All ancillary travel products and related bookings — including international and domestic flights, pre- and post-journey accommodation, and return bus charters — must be independently organised by you or through your preferred travel provider, unless expressly stated otherwise in your Booking Confirmation.

5. Travel Insurance
5.1 Mandatory Requirement
-
Travel insurance is mandatory for all guests participating in any Camel Treks Australia (CTA) camel-supported bushwalks and all Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ) international journeys. Travel insurance must be in place prior to travel, and participation will be refused if valid insurance is not held in accordance with these Booking Conditions.
5.2 Timing of Insurance
-
Guests may make a deposit without insurance in place; however, comprehensive travel insurance must be obtained no later than the time the final balance payment is made, and in all cases prior to departure. This requirement applies to all Australian and international journeys offered by CTA and NSJ, whether listed on the website or arranged privately.
5.3 Submission of Insurance Details
-
Once the final balance of your booking has been paid, you must provide your insurance policy number, the name of the insurer, and the insurer’s 24-hour emergency contact number. Failure to provide these details may result in cancellation of your booking and denial of participation, without refund.
-
If your insurance is linked to a credit card or bank account, you must still provide the insurer’s name, policy reference, and emergency contact details. Guests are advised that credit card–linked insurance often offers limited coverage.
5.4 Importance and Scope of Coverage
-
CTA and NSJ consider travel insurance essential due to the remote and nature-based environments in which these journeys operate. Your policy must provide adequate cover for, at minimum, medical expenses, emergency evacuation and repatriation, personal accident and death, and trip cancellation and curtailment.
5.5 Submission Method
-
All insurance documentation must be emailed to nomadicspiritjourneys@proton.me prior to your departure date. If you choose not to obtain travel insurance, you must provide written confirmation stating that you fully accept responsibility for all medical, travel, evacuation, and associated costs, and acknowledge that CTA and NSJ accept no financial liability in the event of illness, injury, cancellation, or Force Majeure disruptions.
5.6 Group Bookings
-
For group bookings, the lead booking guest must ensure that valid insurance is held by every participant, and that all group members have read and accepted these Booking Conditions. CTA and NSJ reserve the right to request verification of insurance for any group participant at any time prior to departure.
5.7 Recommended Providers (Optional Guidance Only)
-
For convenience only, guests may wish to review providers such as Travel Insure or Cover-More. CTA and NSJ do not recommend, endorse, or guarantee any specific insurer or policy.
5.8 Activity Disclosure
-
It is your responsibility to ensure that your chosen insurance policy explicitly covers camel-supported bushwalking, trekking, remote area travel, and international adventure travel, where applicable. Failure to disclose the nature of your activities to your insurer may invalidate your policy, for which CTA and NSJ accept no responsibility.
5.9 Travel Insurance Is the Guest’s Responsibility
-
If you elect not to obtain travel insurance, you must provide written acknowledgement that you accept full personal and financial responsibility for all medical, evacuation, and travel-related costs, and accept this responsibility even in the event of a Force Majeure Event, illness, injury, or inability to participate. For group bookings, each participant must provide their own written confirmation of this understanding.

6. Deposit - Payment and Cancellation Policy
Refund Policy Preface:
-
Camel Treks Australia (CTA) operates with limited guest capacity and only during the cooler months, which are essential for the safe conduct of camel-supported bushwalks. As such, guests are required to provide at least 90 days’ notice of cancellation prior to their scheduled camel-supported bushwalk to allow CTA the opportunity to offer the place to another guest.
-
Many guests plan their camel-supported bushwalks well in advance, often 6 to 12 months ahead. Due to the boutique nature of CTA’s operations and limited seasonal availability, it is historically unlikely that cancelled spaces can be filled within 90 days. These policies are in place to ensure fair compensation for staff and camels and to maintain the quality of operations.
-
Cancellation requests must be submitted via email to nomadicspiritjourneys@proton.me. CTA does not offer refunds of final payments made within 90 days prior to a scheduled camel-supported bushwalk departure. However, with sufficient notice, bookings may be transferred to another camel-supported bushwalk within the same season, subject to availability, or transferred to a replacement guest.
-
If a verified medical condition prevents participation, CTA will work with the guest to either reschedule where possible or provide a supporting letter for the guest’s travel insurer. A registered medical doctor’s letter is required confirming that participation is inadvisable.
6.1 Non-Refundable Deposit – Camel Treks Australia
-
A non-refundable deposit of 20% per person, based on the total camel-supported bushwalk cost, is required at the time of booking via the online booking platform. This deposit is strictly non-refundable and non-transferable and secures your place on the specified camel-supported bushwalk.
6.2 Final Payment – Camel Treks Australia
-
The final balance payment is due 90 days prior to the scheduled camel-supported bushwalk departure date. Once the final payment is processed, it is non-refundable.
-
Final payments are transferable to another camel-supported bushwalk within the same calendar year, subject to availability. If a booking is transferred to the following year, any applicable price increase will apply.
6.2(a) Credit Card Payments – Camel Treks Australia
-
The initial 20% deposit is processed via the guest’s nominated credit card through the online booking system. The same card will be used to process the final payment unless alternative payment arrangements are made.
-
CTA does not store or have access to guest credit card details at any time. All payments are processed via secure third-party payment providers. Guests who wish to avoid credit card service fees may request to make the final payment via direct bank transfer. Bank transfer payments must be received no later than 90 days prior to the scheduled departure date.
6.2(b) Final Payment Process – Camel Treks Australia
-
Automated payment reminders will be issued prior to the 90-day due date. However, final payments are not automatically processed without guest authorisation.
Failure to complete final payment by the due date may result in cancellation of the booking and forfeiture of all payments made.
6.2(c) Emergency Discretion – Camel Treks Australia
-
In the event of a genuine, unavoidable emergency, CTA may, at its sole discretion, apply all or part of a guest’s camel-supported bushwalk payment to a future camel-supported bushwalk. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.

Nomadic Spirit Journeys – Deposit & Payment Policy
-
For Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ), a non-refundable deposit of AUD $400 per person is required at the time of booking for all international journeys, regardless of the final currency in which the remainder of the journey is paid. This deposit secures the guest’s place and is strictly non-refundable and non-transferable due to third-party supplier commitments.
Final Payment – Nomadic Spirit Journeys
-
Final payments for NSJ journeys are coordinated individually with each guest and confirmed within the guest’s individual booking confirmation. Due to the limited guest numbers and the involvement of multiple third-party providers, all NSJ final payments must be paid in full by the specified due date, in the applicable journey currency as outlined in the booking confirmation.
-
Once a final payment has been made, it is strictly non-refundable. NSJ is unable to reschedule or transfer international journey bookings. In the case of unavoidable medical or qualifying circumstances, NSJ will provide supporting documentation for the guest’s travel insurer to assist with a claim.

7. Camel supported Bushwalking Attendance and Cancellation Policy
7.1 Missed Camel-Supported Bushwalk (No-Show)
-
If a guest fails to arrive for their confirmed camel-supported bushwalk without prior written cancellation, this will be treated as a no-show. No refund, credit, or transfer will apply.
-
In exceptional circumstances where non-attendance is genuinely beyond the guest’s control, any consideration for transfer or credit will be entirely at the sole discretion of the Director of Camel Treks Australia. There is no automatic entitlement to any alternative arrangement.
7.2 Cancellation of Camel-Supported Bushwalk
-
When you book a camel-supported bushwalk, you are reserving a limited and seasonal space that is no longer available to other guests. CTA operates exclusively during the cooler months to ensure guest safety and animal welfare, as summer conditions present extreme environmental and health risks.
-
If cancellation is required, guests must provide written notice as early as possible. While places are in high demand, cancelled spaces are historically unlikely to be filled within short-notice periods.
7.3 Late Cancellations and No-Shows
-
A late cancellation is defined as cancellation received less than 30 days prior to the scheduled camel-supported bushwalk departure date. A no-show occurs when a guest fails to attend without any prior written cancellation. In both cases, 100% of the bushwalk fee is forfeited, no refund applies, and any possible consideration for future transfer is entirely discretionary.
7.4 Short Notice Cancellation (90-Day Rule)
-
Guests are required to provide a minimum of 90 days’ notice if cancelling a camel-supported bushwalk in order to avoid final payment being processed. Cancellation within 90 days automatically triggers the non-refundability of the final payment, in accordance with Section 6.
7.5 Refunds, Credits, and Transfers
-
CTA does not offer refunds of final payments made within 90 days prior to a scheduled camel-supported bushwalk departure. Where at least 30 days’ notice is received, and subject to availability, CTA may offer a credit toward another camel-supported bushwalk within the same season/year. If less than 30 days’ notice is provided, all payments are forfeited, including the non-refundable deposit.
7.6 Transferring Camel-Supported Bushwalks
-
CTA will make reasonable efforts to accommodate date transfers where operationally possible. However, transfers are not guaranteed, overbooking is strictly avoided, and guest experience, camel welfare, and staff capacity always take priority.
-
Camel-supported bushwalks within Australia cannot be transferred to Nomadic Spirit Journeys or to any international journey facilitated by third-party providers.
Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ) – International Cancellation Policy
-
Nomadic Spirit Journeys operates internationally in partnership with third-party providers. Once an NSJ journey is booked, bookings are non-transferable, final payments are strictly non-refundable, and journeys cannot be rescheduled or credited.
-
International journeys cannot be transferred to Camel Treks Australia bushwalks, and Australian camel-supported bushwalks cannot be transferred to Nomadic Spirit Journeys under any circumstances.
-
In cases of unavoidable medical or qualifying circumstances, NSJ will provide supporting documentation for the guest’s travel insurer only. All refund recovery remains strictly between the guest and their insurer.

8. Return Charters
8.1 Adelaide City to Port Augusta Regional City with Stateliner Premier Coach Services:
-
For the 2026–27 seasons, Camel Treks Australia (CTA) requires all non-self-driving guests to independently book cost-effective return charter coach seats with Stateliner Premier Coach Services between Adelaide City and Port Augusta Regional City.Guests must review and accept Stateliner Premier Coach Services’ own Terms and Conditions and Cancellation Policy at the time of booking.
-
Timetables for Stateliner Premier services align with 2026–27 camel-supported bushwalking journeys. For more information visit this websites Book Now, and Arrival & Departures pages. CTA does not manage, control, alter, guarantee, or take responsibility for Stateliner’s scheduling, fare structures, cancellations, delays, or operational decisions. However we have welcomed their flawless services for many years.
8.2 Camel Treks Australia's return charter from Port Augusta Regional City to the Far North Flinders Ranges:
-
For the 2026–27 seasons, CTA will facilitate a complimentary return charter transfer from Port Augusta Regional City to our base in the Far North Flinders Ranges, Outback South Australia, using our comfortable Toyota Coach (formerly part of the Stateliner Premier country fleet).
-
This transfer is provided as a courtesy service for guests booked on scheduled camel-supported bushwalks and operates only on designated trek transfer days.
The journey will include brief township pauses at:
-
Quorn
-
Hawker
-
Leigh Creek
CTA reserves the right to substitute vehicles if required due to mechanical, safety, or operational reasons. This complimentary transfer holds no cash value and is not transferable, refundable, or redeemable for other services.

9. Prior to Your Camel-Supported Bushwalking Journey
9.1 Travel Insurance
-
Attendance requires valid and adequate travel insurance for the entire duration of your Camel Treks Australia (CTA) camel-supported bushwalking journey and/or Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ) international journey. Comprehensive cover is strongly recommended for cancellation, medical treatment, emergency evacuation, luggage loss, and associated expenses.
-
Insurance should be arranged at the time of paying your deposit, as cancellation penalties may apply from that point forward. All insurance policy details must be supplied to CTA or NSJ in accordance with Section 5 of these Booking Conditions and may be relied upon in the event of a medical emergency.
9.2 Passports, Visas & Vaccinations
-
For non-Australian citizens, you must hold a valid passport with sufficient remaining validity and obtain all required visas for entry into Australia or for participation in international journeys facilitated by Nomadic Spirit Journeys. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have obtained all necessary vaccinations, preventive medications, and health clearances required for the full duration of your journey.
9.3(a) Health, Fitness & Mobility Requirements
-
All guests must have a suitable level of general health, fitness, and mobility to safely participate in camel-supported bushwalking journeys. These journeys involve walking across uneven terrain, including rocky creek beds, gibber plains, and in general remote locations without immediate medical access. Guests must be able to walk unassisted across uneven ground, enter and exit ground-level swags independently, step into and out of vehicles without mechanical lifting assistance, and adapt to outdoor conditions without conventional indoor comforts.
-
A Waiver Form must be completed following your Booking Confirmation and prior to departure. Failure to complete this form may result in cancellation of your booking without refund.
-
CTA operates in collaboration with remote medical services, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and medical information supplied may be accessed in the event of an emergency for correct clinical response.
-
Guests requiring a wheelchair, walking aid, or personal support person must make contact prior to booking. CTA vehicles do not carry lifts or ramps. Individual assessments are required before such a booking can be accepted. Do not proceed with a booking if a support person is required without written confirmation from CTA approving this arrangement.
-
CTA and NSJ operate across remote environments in Australia, Mongolia, India, and Morocco. Good general fitness is a condition of attendance. CTA reserves the right to refuse participation or remove any individual whose health, injury, or medical condition may compromise their safety or the safety of others. A medical clearance letter may be required at CTA’s discretion.
9.3(b) Disabilities We Are Unable to Support
-
Camel-supported bushwalking journeys occur in remote desert and wilderness environments that require participants to manage unpredictable physical and environmental demands. While CTA and NSJ make reasonable efforts to accommodate diverse needs, some disabilities may make participation unsafe or unmanageable in a remote setting. Participants may be required to provide a medical support letter confirming their capacity to participate. A support person may be mandatory in some cases.
-
CTA staff are not trained in Auslan or specialised disability communication methods. While we aim to be inclusive, we must prioritise safety where specialist medical or mobility care is not available.
-
Conditions requiring prior written approval may include, but are not limited to: significant hearing impairment, limited mobility, joint replacement, amputation, neurological conditions, intellectual disability requiring daily care, learning disabilities requiring one-on-one assistance, mental health conditions requiring active clinical support, acquired brain injury, visual impairment, chronic medical disorders, and spectrum-related conditions.
-
CTA has a duty of care when taking guests into remote environments beyond immediate medical reach. Attendance is determined solely at the discretion of the Director of Camel Treks Australia, based on medical documentation, operational capacity, and safety considerations. Age is not a determining factor—fitness, medical stability, and independence are.
9.3(c) Undisclosed Medical Conditions
-
Failure to disclose serious medical conditions prior to arrival places all guests, staff, and operations at risk. Any guest arriving with a medical condition that exceeds CTA’s reasonable capacity to manage will be transported to the nearest medical facility at the guest’s expense and may be returned to Port Augusta when available, subject to medical clearance. CTA and NSJ accept no liability for any costs arising from undisclosed conditions.
9.4 Existing Medical Conditions
-
If you have a medical condition that may reasonably be expected to increase medical risk, require assistance, or interfere with standard participation, you must notify CTA or NSJ before booking. A medical assessment may be required. If it is determined that participation is unsafe or requires support beyond reasonable capacity, the booking may be declined.
9.5 New Medical Conditions
-
You must advise CTA or NSJ immediately of any new or changed medical conditions arising after booking. A medical clearance may be required. If clearance is not supplied within reasonable time, or if participation is deemed unsafe, this will be treated as a cancellation by you, and cancellation fees will apply in accordance with Sections 6 and 7.
9.6 Illness, Intoxication & Behaviour at Commencement
-
CTA reserves the right to refuse departure, deny participation, or remove a guest from a camel-supported bushwalking journey if, at commencement, they present with illness, injury, visible infection, intoxication, or impairment that may endanger themselves or others. If intoxication or unsafe behaviour is suspected, CTA may transport the individual to the nearest medical facility or police station at the guest’s expense. Disruptive, unsafe, or disrespectful behaviour will result in immediate removal without refund or alternative obligation.
9.7 Dietary Requirements
-
Dietary requirements must be submitted within 30 days of Booking Confirmation. CTA and NSJ will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee supplier compliance in remote environments. Guests remain responsible for confirming allergen safety. CTA disclaims liability for allergen exposure except where proven negligence exists. Guests with severe allergies or anaphylaxis are encouraged to bring personal supplies or notify CTA so appropriate planning can occur.
9.8 Medical and Risk Waiver Form
-
All guests must acknowledge and accept that camel-supported bushwalking journeys involve inherent risks beyond ordinary daily activities, including remote travel, wildlife interaction, environmental exposure, and physical exertion. Participation requires acceptance of risk and waiver of liability to the fullest extent permitted by law for both Australian and international journeys.
9.9 Deemed Acceptance
-
If you make a booking on behalf of another person, you confirm that you are authorised to bind them to these Booking Conditions. You accept liability for any loss or damage arising from misrepresentation of that authority. All guests must complete their own Medical and Risk Waiver Form. Guests under 18 years of age must have all documentation completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian.

10. Safety and Health Considerations
10.1 Seatbelts
-
Where any vehicle, vessel, or aircraft utilised during a Camel Treks Australia (CTA) camel-supported bushwalking journey or a Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ) international journey is fitted with seatbelts, the wearing of seatbelts is mandatory at all times while in motion. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CTA and NSJ limit and exclude liability for personal injury, death, or damage arising from an accident involving a vehicle where the failure to wear a supplied seatbelt contributed to or caused the injury or death.
10.2 General Good Health
-
All participants must be in good general health. If in doubt, you must seek advice from your own medical practitioner prior to booking. CTA and NSJ staff are not medical professionals and operate journeys in remote landscapes across Australia, Mongolia, India, and Morocco. CTA is therefore unable to accept responsibility for persons with significant unmanaged medical, physical, or mental health conditions that may compromise the safety of themselves, other guests, or staff.
-
In some cases, CTA has previously accepted guests with physical limitations following detailed consultation, including with the guest’s medical practitioner and, where relevant, the involvement of a dedicated support person. Acceptance is always entirely at the discretion of the Director of Camel Treks Australia.
-
CTA is focused on the smooth, safe, and uninterrupted facilitation of camel-supported bushwalking journeys across the rugged and geologically significant Far North Flinders Ranges. Guests presenting with visible illness, injury, or impairment that may prevent safe participation may be required to consult with medical authorities, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and may be transported at their own expense to the nearest medical facility.
10.3 Vaccination Policy
-
CTA and NSJ do not require proof of vaccination. However, guests must not arrive unwell. Guests who become unwell prior to their scheduled camel-supported bushwalking journey must notify CTA immediately, and participation may be deferred where appropriate. In the event of a verified illness or unavoidable medical emergency, CTA may, at its sole discretion, apply all or part of the guest’s payment to a future camel-supported bushwalking journey, subject to availability. A medical certificate or supporting evidence is required for short-notice deferrals.
10.4 Pandemics, Viruses & Public Health Events
-
Under Work Health and Safety legislation, CTA is required to protect the health, safety, and welfare of its staff, cameleers, and guests. Should COVID-19 or any similar virus, pandemic, or public health situation result in government restrictions or State directives, CTA and NSJ will act strictly in accordance with those regulations. Such events are beyond the control of CTA and NSJ. Any affected journeys may be postponed or rescheduled rather than refunded, in alignment with Force Majeure provisions.
10.5 Extreme Weather Events
-
CTA operates in remote desert and mountain environments where extreme weather events may affect journey safety and feasibility. Departures may be delayed, altered, or postponed due to heat, wind, rain, flooding, or other adverse conditions. CTA will provide advanced notice wherever possible and will endeavour to reschedule affected guests to a preferred future camel-supported bushwalking journey, subject to availability. All journeys are conducted outdoors in the Far North Flinders Ranges. Itineraries may be modified at any time to ensure guest safety and animal welfare.
10.6 Emergency Authority & Medical Evacuation
-
In the event of an emergency during a CTA camel-supported bushwalking journey, you authorise Camel Treks Australia Pty Ltd and its staff to contact the Royal Flying Doctor Service and to arrange emergency medical evacuation if required. This may involve ambulance transfer from our location to the Leigh Creek Hospital for potential aerial evacuation via the airstrip facilities and RFDS.
-
For emergencies occurring during NSJ international journeys, local medical services, translators, and emergency evacuation providers will be engaged as required.
-
You acknowledge that you are fully responsible for all costs associated with emergency treatment, evacuation, medical transport, and related expenses. This is the basis upon which travel insurance is mandatory.
10.7 Remote Area Acknowledgement & First Aid
-
You acknowledge that all Australian camel-supported bushwalking journeys operate in extremely remote Outback regions of South Australia, including the Far North Flinders Ranges. These regions are multiple hours from hospitals and major medical facilities.
-
You acknowledge that first aid may be required during a journey and consent to CTA staff providing first aid under the understanding that they are not qualified medical doctors, no warranties are given regarding medical outcomes, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, CTA and its staff are not liable for any care given or omitted.
-
If you are unable to act on your own behalf, you authorise CTA staff to seek and secure any medical treatment they reasonably believe is required. This may include Royal Flying Doctor Service evacuation or equivalent services. You agree to reimburse CTA for any costs incurred.
-
CTA senior staff hold remote first aid, CPR, and resuscitation certifications and operate in accordance with Royal Flying Doctor Service medical directives. CTA carries a fully stocked RFDS Medical Chest, a comprehensive General First Aid Chest, and a defibrillator unit for cardiac emergencies. These medical resources are securely stored and maintained in accordance with remote operations standards.

11. Authority on Camel-Supported Bushwalking Journeys and International Journeys
-
All Camel Treks Australia (CTA) camel-supported bushwalking journeys and all Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ) international journeys operate under the direction and authority of the Director of Camel Treks Australia, Head Cameleers, appointed staff, and accredited local guides and third-party operators engaged for international journeys.
-
All decisions made by these authorities are final in all matters that may impact safety, health, weather conditions, terrain accessibility, animal welfare, logistics, cultural obligations, and the physical or emotional well-being of any guest, staff member, guide, or camel.
-
Failure to comply with the lawful directions of the Director, Head Cameleers, staff, or appointed international guides, or engaging in behaviour that compromises safety, group cohesion, cultural respect, animal welfare, weather risk management, or operational flow, may result in immediate removal from the camel-supported bushwalking journey or international journey.
-
In such circumstances, no refund, credit, or alternative experience (in whole or in part) will be provided, and you agree to promptly reimburse Camel Treks Australia or Nomadic Spirit Journeys for any costs associated with your removal, including transport, accommodation, medical, security, or logistical expenses.
-
CTA and NSJ also reserve the right to decline your participation in any future camel-supported bushwalking journeys or international Nomadic Spirit Journeys experiences.

12. Privacy Policy – Camel Treks Australia & Nomadic Spirit Journeys
12.1 Photography and Recording Preferences
-
Camel-supported bushwalking journeys and international journeys are shared outdoor experiences where guests often capture moments through photography and video recording. While personal preferences regarding photography are respected, by participating you acknowledge that photography and filming are a normal part of the shared experience and that other guests may take photographs or videos during the journey.
-
CTA and NSJ do not control or restrict the private use of images captured by other guests. However, we actively encourage all participants to be respectful and considerate of fellow guests’ privacy, particularly in relation to close-up images of faces, personal moments, and sensitive situations.
-
If you have concerns about being photographed or recorded, this must be carefully considered prior to booking. Participation constitutes acceptance of the communal nature of photography during journeys.
12.2 Photography and Recording Consent
-
During your Camel Treks Australia camel-supported bushwalking journey and/or Nomadic Spirit Journeys international journey, CTA, NSJ, staff, contractors, or third-party suppliers may capture photographs or recordings that include your image and activities. These images and recordings may be used for promotional, documentary, educational, or marketing purposes across digital, print, broadcast, and social media platforms.
-
CTA and NSJ do not intentionally seek or preference close-up images of identifiable faces. Our strong preference is for landscape, scenic, atmospheric, rear-angle, side-profile, and activity-based imagery that reflects the journey environment rather than individual identity. This approach aligns with evolving data privacy expectations and respectful representation.
-
By participating in a journey, you provide your irrevocable consent for such use in accordance with this policy.
12.3 Consent Acknowledgment
-
You acknowledge that you are not entitled to any payment, royalties, or other compensation for the use of your image, likeness, voice, or recorded participation in any promotional, marketing, media, or documentary material.
12.4 Privacy Guidelines
-
CTA and NSJ strive to capture the essence, landscape, and atmosphere of each journey while respecting personal space and individual privacy. Guests are welcome to take personal photographs and recordings for private, non-commercial use and personal keepsakes.
-
We also encourage all guests to extend the same respect to one another, particularly in relation to social media sharing, close-up facial images, and moments of personal vulnerability.
12.5 Cameleer and Guide Requests
-
There may be occasions where cameleers, staff, or international guides request that no photography or filming take place. These requests may occur due to safety requirements, cultural considerations, privacy of local communities, wildlife welfare, or operational reasons. Such requests must be complied with immediately.
12.5(a) Cultural Respect, Traditional Custodians & Photography on Country
-
Camel Treks Australia operates on the traditional lands of Aboriginal custodians, including the Adnyamathanha people of the Flinders Ranges, who hold deep spiritual, cultural, and ancestral connection to Country. Within Aboriginal culture, Elders are respectfully referred to as “Uncle” or “Aunty”, reflecting their standing, wisdom, and authority as cultural knowledge holders.
-
Guests are required to conduct themselves with respect, humility, and cultural awareness while walking on Country. This includes seeking permission before photographing Aboriginal people, culturally significant locations, artefacts, or ceremonies.
-
There may be locations where photography is culturally inappropriate or not permitted. In such cases, cameleers, local guides, Elders, or community representatives may request that no images be taken, and these requests must be complied with.
12.5(b) Sacred Sites on International Journeys
-
Nomadic Spirit Journeys operates within countries that include sacred temples, monasteries, pilgrimage sites, burial grounds, and culturally protected locations. Some of these sites strictly prohibit photography or impose specific conditions on image capture.
-
Guests are required to follow the instructions of local guides, spiritual custodians, community leaders, and site authorities at all times. Where photography is prohibited, no images or recordings of any kind may be made.
12.6 Filming and Photography on Journeys
-
Professional filming and photography may occasionally take place during camel-supported bushwalking journeys or international journeys. This may involve external media teams, documentary crews, or professional photographers. CTA or NSJ will notify all guests in advance if scheduled professional filming is planned. Participation in such journeys remains voluntary. This is an infrequent occurrence.
12.7 Medical Information Provided by You
-
CTA and NSJ collect and securely store the medical information you provide. This information is strictly used for emergency response, medical coordination, risk management, and duty-of-care obligations during your journey.
-
Your medical information is not disclosed to any third party unless required for emergency medical treatment. In such cases, disclosure may be made to treating medical professionals, including Royal Flying Doctor Service doctors, hospital staff in Port Augusta Regional City, Adelaide City, or international emergency medical providers where relevant.
12.8 Your Personal Information and Email Address
-
CTA and NSJ strictly protect the confidentiality of guest personal information, including contact details and email addresses, and store data in accordance with applicable Australian privacy legislation. Personal information is never shared with third parties without your explicit consent.
-
On rare occasions, external film crews or professional photographers may request permission to communicate directly with guests regarding a specific project. In such cases, CTA or NSJ will first seek your written consent before any contact details are shared. CTA and NSJ do not engage in spam marketing and maintain strict data privacy protocols.

13. Cancellation by Camel Treks Australia & Nomadic Spirit Journeys
13.1 If CTA or NSJ Cancels
If Camel Treks Australia (CTA) cancels your camel-supported bushwalking journey, or Nomadic Spirit Journeys (NSJ) cancels your international journey, for reasons other than a Force Majeure Event or failure to satisfy minimum guest numbers, you will be offered one of the following options, at the discretion of CTA or NSJ:
-
Transfer to an alternative journey of comparable value and experience, where feasible and subject to availability, or
-
Issue of a credit note for all funds received by CTA or NSJ, valid for use within the same season and/or the following operational year.
-
CTA and NSJ do not offer cash refunds in such circumstances unless otherwise required by law.
-
CTA operations in 2026 and beyond remain subject to CTA’s continued ability to secure appropriate Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance in an environment of escalating insurance costs, which now form one of the most significant components of journey operating expenses.
13.2 Insurance Availability, Force Majeure & Limitation of Liability
-
In the event that CTA is unable to secure suitable insurance cover for any future season, or where journeys are cancelled due to Force Majeure Events, government restrictions, biosecurity controls, public health orders, environmental hazards, or failure to meet minimum booking numbers, CTA or NSJ will provide you with a formal cancellation letter for submission to your travel insurer.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CTA and NSJ accept no liability for any additional losses, costs, or consequential expenses incurred by you as a result of such cancellation, including but not limited to:
-
Airfares
-
Accommodation
-
Insurance premiums
-
Visa, passport, vaccination, or medical expenses
-
Transport or logistics costs
-
Loss of personal income or opportunity
All refund recovery in such circumstances remains strictly between you and your travel insurance provider.

14. Minimum Participant Numbers – Camel Treks Australia & Nomadic Spirit Journeys
14.1 Minimum Numbers Required

Mongolia international journeys: minimum 6 guests

If minimum participant numbers are not met, the journey may be cancelled, postponed, altered, shortened, or re-costed at the discretion of CTA or NSJ.
-
CTA and NSJ will endeavour to provide notice no later than 14 days prior to the commencement of Australian camel-supported bushwalking journeys and no later than 30 days prior to the commencement of international journeys.
14.2 If a Journey Is Rescheduled, Altered, or Re-Costed
If a camel-supported bushwalking journey or international journey is rescheduled, altered, or re-costed, you will be offered the option to:
-
Accept the revised departure date, itinerary, cost, or alternative arrangement; or
-
Decline the change and cancel your booking.
You must advise CTA or NSJ of your decision within 7 days of receiving notice.
If CTA or NSJ cancels the journey due to minimum numbers not being met, or if you elect to cancel under these circumstances, you may, at the discretion of CTA or NSJ, be offered either:
-
A credit toward a mutually agreeable alternative journey; or
-
A formal cancellation letter for submission to your travel insurer to facilitate a claim.
15. Claims and Complaints
-
If you have a complaint, concern, or issue during your camel-supported bushwalking journey or international journey, you must notify the Director, Head Cameleers, Lead Guide, or appointed journey representative as soon as practicable so that the matter may be addressed promptly on-site wherever possible.
-
If the matter is not resolved during the journey, you must submit your complaint in writing via email to Camel Treks Australia or Nomadic Spirit Journeys within 30 days of completing your journey. Complaints received outside this timeframe may not be considered.

16. Dispute Resolution
16.1 Mandatory Pre-Litigation Process
In the event of any dispute between you and Camel Treks Australia or Nomadic Spirit Journeys, including any dispute arising from these Booking Conditions, you agree that no Tribunal or Court proceedings may be commenced unless the following process has first been followed, except where urgent injunctive or interlocutory relief is required:
-
The dispute must first be raised in writing via email to CTA or NSJ, outlining the nature of the dispute and the outcome sought.
-
The parties will then attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute through informal negotiation and, where appropriate, structured mediation before any legal proceedings are commenced.
16.2 Notice of Dispute
-
The party initiating the dispute must send written notice via email to the other party, outlining the details of the dispute, the desired outcome, and the actions sought for resolution. Within 30 days of receiving the notice, the parties must engage in good-faith efforts to resolve the dispute through negotiation or other mutually agreed means.
-
You acknowledge that Australian camel-supported bushwalking journeys operate seasonally between May and November, and that Nomadic Spirit Journeys international programs operate primarily between January and May. During these active operational periods, CTA and NSJ may be operating in remote, off-grid, and international locations where communication access is limited. Accordingly, response times may be delayed during active journey delivery periods.
16.3 Mediation
-
If the dispute remains unresolved 30 days after the Notice of Dispute, the parties must either agree on a mediator or request the appointment of a mediator through the Australian Disputes Centre.
16.4 Costs of Mediation
-
Both parties share equal responsibility for the mediator’s professional fees, reasonable expenses, and venue costs. Each party is responsible for its own legal, advisory, and preparation costs.
16.5 Venue
-
Any mediation under this clause will be conducted in Adelaide City, South Australia, unless otherwise agreed in writing by all parties.
16.6 Confidentiality
-
All communications, negotiations, and information exchanged during dispute resolution and mediation are confidential and, to the fullest extent permitted by law, are conducted on a “without prejudice” basis.
16.7 Termination of Mediation
-
If 30 days pass after the commencement of mediation without resolution, either party may give written notice requesting termination of mediation, and the mediator must comply.

Why does Camel Treks Australia have Booking Conditions, and require guests obtain travel insurance?

Camel Treks Australia offers guests a unique and unparalleled experience through remote and culturally significant landscapes. Camel Treks Australia is an accredited, award-winning tourism business, holding associated memberships with tourism professional bodies, both National and International. Nomadic Spirit Journeys extends this experience internationally through Mongolia, India, and Morocco with trusted local operators and cultural hosts.

Camel Treks Australia operates primarily across private Aboriginal land under the authority of Traditional Elders in the Far North Flinders Ranges, as well as pastoral stations and Crown lease land. International journeys operate under the authority and frameworks of local cultural hosts and third-party operators. As such, our operations require year-round professional compliance, preparedness, and operational readiness aligned with the nature of our environments and delivery.

In the event of journey cancellations within the above stated non-refund period, and/or in the event of wet or extreme weather events preventing a journey, our commitment to operating Camel Treks Australia and Nomadic Spirit Journeys does not diminish, and nor do the associated expenses, which include but are not limited to the following:

Staff Commitment
Unwavering commitment to providing above-award wages. Staff are outdoor and cameleer trained, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of guests during the limited operating season. In addition, our staff operations involve ongoing training in remote first aid, food preparation and cooking, bush safety, and animal handling. Staff also assist with camel veterinary checks and the feeding of camel-specific roughage, as well as maintaining the health and wellbeing of our camels.

Operational Capacity
Limited operational capacity in Australia due to the trekking season being confined to cooler months. Limited operational capacity does not account for the year-round care required for camels or the maintenance of our home-based camel facilities, nor the leasing of land and hay required to feed to the camels.

Infrastructure for Camel-Supported Bushwalks
Extensive infrastructure is required for running camel-supported bushwalks, including trucks, four-wheel drives, trailers, food storage, refrigeration, and specialised pack saddles which are carefully fitted for each camel. This represents a significant financial and time investment, ensuring the comfort and safety of both our camels and guests. Our camping equipment and comfortable swags are replaced regularly to maintain a high standard of guests comfort.

Lease Fees
The lands we access for journeys across Aboriginal land, pastoral lease, and Crown lease are subject to formal permissions, cultural authority, and station agreements. These access arrangements represent an ongoing investment. We do not operate anywhere without lawful access rights.

Routine Maintenance
Camping gear undergoes routine replacement cycles. During the off-season, all vehicles undergo a thorough process of cleaning, servicing, and repair, meticulously prepared for the following operating season. The rough dirt roads these vehicles traverse pose a considerable challenge, with annual wear and tear that demands diligent ongoing maintenance.

Impact of Weather on Operations
Wet weather or severe weather forecasts leading to unavoidable journey cancellations are often the most challenging time operationally, as camels may need to be relocated to higher, non-slippery ground in such events. At times this requires loading and transporting camels for extended distances. Ongoing care and logistical support for both staff and camels is essential in such circumstances. Whilst this might only happen every few years, we are none the less prepared for such logistics.

Financial Responsibilities
Payment to food suppliers, land access fees, camel facility costs, continuous operation of administrative systems, website and booking platforms, bookkeeping, and accounting services. Veterinary checks when required and associated treatments and medicinal products.

Administrative Operations
Administrative staff responsible for guest liaison via email and phone. Continuous operation of booking systems, and employment contractors.

Conclusion (Travel Insurance – Personal Responsibility)
-
Camel Treks Australia and Nomadic Spirit Journeys strongly recommend that all guests secure comprehensive personal travel insurance at the time of booking through their preferred provider. Personal travel insurance provides coverage for unforeseen incidents such as extreme weather, flight alterations, medical illness, injury, or accommodation issues that may lead to the cancellation or interruption of a journey. CTA and NSJ cannot assume liability for circumstances beyond our control. Guests are urged to secure a comprehensive personal travel insurance policy covering the entire duration of their specific journey, as well as all travel arrangements to and from their destinations, whether within Australia or Overseas.
-
Camel Treks Australia and Nomadic Spirit Journeys are dedicated to providing unique, ethical, and enriching experiences. Our terms and conditions are in place to ensure the safety, satisfaction, cultural respect, and long-term sustainability of our operations. We appreciate your understanding and adherence to these policies. If you have any questions or require clarification, please contact us.
General Good Health is a Requirement of Attendance
-
The Australian journeys involve camel-supported bushwalking. Participants walk while camels carry swags and equipment. Guests must be in good general health and capable of managing physical activity in remote terrain.
-
Cameleers offer guests a getaway for the young and young-at-heart. There is no age limit for participation; however, guests must be in good general health and capable of managing the physical demands of travel. Journeys are facilitated in remote landscapes and we carry a comprehensive Royal Flying Doctor Service Medical Chest, with cameleers trained in first aid. We are not equipped to support persons with known chronic and complex medical conditions. Guests with challenges may be able to travel in our four-wheel-drive support vehicles with the camp shift crew; please email for further discussion.
-
Camel riding applies only on International Journeys in locations such as Mongolia, India, and Morocco, and operates under the authority and protocols of local guides and hosts.
-
During the booking process, individuals with diagnosed medical conditions are required to provide comprehensive details about their condition and treatment plan. This information is strictly confidential and is only accessed in the event of a medical emergency. In cases where a condition is known to be serious or complicated, Camel Treks Australia may request a support letter from the guest’s prescribing Medical Doctor or relevant Health Professional.
-
If you have a known medical condition please check your suitability with a medical practitioner prior to booking. In Australia we do carry a Royal Flying Doctor Service Medical Chest, and the Head Cameleer is authorised open and administer medications from within the RFDS comprehensive Medical Chest under the supervision of an RFDS Medical Doctor. In the event of a medical emergency, we maintain immediate contact with the Royal Flying Doctor Service via satellite phone.

Additional Considerations
Attire and Footwear Recommendations
-
For Nomadic Spirit Journeys where camel riding applies internationally, returning riders consistently recommend wearing padded bicycle shorts underneath pants for additional riding comfort.
Dress Code for Australian Camel-Supported Bushwalking (CTA)
-
For Camel Treks Australia bushwalking journeys, guests may choose to walk in either long pants or shorts. If wearing shorts, gaiters are considered a wise choice for added lower-leg protection and to help prevent prickles, seeds, stones, and debris from entering boots and socks. Good quality, well-worn-in bushwalking boots or shoes are essential for all guests. Elastic-sided boots and comfortable hiking footwear are well suited to our terrain. A closed casual shoe is recommended for evenings around camp.
Dress Code for International Journeys (NSJ)
-
For Nomadic Spirit Journeys, footwear and clothing requirements vary depending on destination, season, and climate and will be outlined in your pre-departure information once registered. For Mongolia winter and shoulder-season journeys, guests are required to purchase locally sourced cold-climate boots on arrival, as these are specifically designed for extreme conditions and are not readily available anywhere else. Full details are provided on the Mongolia Journey webpage.
-
Please do not purchase new footwear immediately prior to any international journey, as this commonly results in blisters and sore feet. In all outdoor environments, closed shoes should always be worn in preference to sandals.
Age Limit and Health Considerations
-
CTA and NSJ offer journeys for the young and young at heart. There is no age limit for participation. It is, however, required that all guests are in good general health. For international riding journeys, guests must be able to balance comfortably. All journeys operate in remote landscapes. Guests with challenges may, by prior arrangement, be able to travel in our four-wheel-drive support vehicles with the camp shift crew.
Optional Extras and Station Accommodation (Australia Only)
On selected Australian bushwalking journeys, optional accommodation may be available on the first and final evenings of your journey. These optional extras must be pre-arranged and are subject to regional availability at the time of booking.
Travel Arrangements
For travellers arriving from interstate or overseas, we strongly recommend arriving in Adelaide City the evening prior to departure for Australian journeys. Affordable accommodation is available near the Adelaide Central Bus Station for ease of onward travel.
Transportation Options (Australia Only)
-
For Australian journeys, CTA recommends utilising Stateliner Premier Coach Services for return travel between Adelaide City and Port Augusta Regional City when applicable. Camel Treks Australia offers a complimentary transfer from Port Augusta Regional City to our remote bushwalking base in the Far North Flinders Ranges where scheduled. Detailed arrival and departure information is issued with each confirmed journey.
Self-Driving Information
-
Self-driving guests are welcome to travel directly to the nominated bushwalking base location as advised prior to departure. Any standard vehicle can comfortably access the Far North Flinders Ranges, as the main approach roads are fully sealed (bitumen) and straight-forward to navigate.
-
For safety, guests are strongly advised to avoid driving at dawn and dusk, as kangaroos and other wildlife are highly active at these times. Please also be aware that stations are unfenced and livestock including sheep, cattle, and horses may wander across main roads at any time. Reduced speed, alert driving, and patience are essential.
-
Road conditions in remote regions can still change due to weather or maintenance works, so guests are encouraged to review the Outback Roads website for current conditions before travel.
Arrival Details
-
We hope this information assists in making your journey smooth and stress-free. We look forward to welcoming you to a truly unforgettable bushwalking or international nomadic experience.
